What is it about NTL and updates?

  pj123 11:43 01 Apr 2006

Everytime a thread is posted advising updates available for Adaware, Spybot etc.. I know I am not going to be able to download them until at least 3 or 4 days. AVG is fine, it updates automatically (if there is one).

Just tried the latest posting re: Spybot but, "No updates available".

Is it an NTL problem?

Yes. It's something to do with the way that they cache pages. We can't get the update until they refresh the page. The problem arises when the download's name doesn't change (e.g. Ad-Aware's is always 'defs.zip' it's just the contents of the zip that changes).

Thanks beynac. Will just have to live with it.

Ctrl F5?

Doesn't work! NTL need to use F5 ;-)

So I should press F5 before trying to download Spybot updates via NTL which keeps getting a bad check sum error message?

Ducking behind the sofa..get AOL; THE BEST isp IN THE WORLD!!!!...Ahhhhh.....

Pressing Ctrl+F5 won't help with the NTL problem as it is their server, not your computer, that needs to refresh the page.

I'm afraid that this won't help with the Spybot download either. The "bad checksum" message usually means that the selected server is busy. Try changing the download server.
