Did anyone hear this yesterday afternoon, and if you did, what did it sound like?

Here's the story

We heard a loud crack in deepest West Somerset.

Maybe whatever it was splashed down in the sea?

I didn't know you could read classic Venusian.

I didn't hear or feel anything but at around that time one of our dogs did bark as if someone was at the door. I had to show her that no one was there.

FE> I thought that perhaps you had tried to use quotation marks.

I don't suppose we have another supersonic sky diver do we?

Or perhaps the sound of the first one has slowly crossed the Atlantic!!

It interests me because reports say the sound was loud enough to make the ground and buildings shake. If it was a sonic boom, and was made by something crossing pressure changes in the atmosphere whilst falling, the object that made it must have been fairly large, and is likely to have hit the ground, or (more likely) landed in the sea.

I'm intrigued by it.

It might have been one of these things (or similar):-

... or [more likely] a fragment of space-junk raining down!

Isn't that what Arthur Dent said just as the Vogons arrived to demolish the earth?
