Warning-- Reverse Phone Call Scam

  jakimo 19:30 21 Jan 2008

Just answered my landline phone..the message.."theres a reverse charge for this call",then one word of a message started,at this point I disconnected, the number calling was 0845-68530000.

There was no request as to whether I accept the call or not, apparently just by picking up the phone Iv been charged £2.96

Is there anyway of putting a stop on this type of call?

It's a scam, of sorts and widely used it seems click here ask BT to bar it for you.

I have caller display on my phone and if I don't know who is calling I don't answer it. My only problem with that is when the call is an international one. I do have a few overseas friends. I find it best to call them on Skype frequently and then they have no need to call me.

Yes I agree with you, my comment about a "scam of sorts" was meant to reflect the unhelpful way it can be used. Not the intention of the system I appreciate.
