nobody knows. Twelve months ago nobody predicted the current price, and nobody can predict where it will be twelve months from now.

Eventually the Middle East will have the West firmly by the financial throat, as oil is our lifeblood, and it will only take so much before the oil-hungry nations will be talking of the protiteering and demanding action against these major producing countries - and then the Iraq war may seem like a playground scuffle.
The future is definitely not rosy.
Will take the mind off house prices though.

The one benefit to us may well be that at these raised prices, many of the North Sea fields that were uneconomic to drill will now become possible 'black-gold' for the UK - Aberdeen is already experiencing a mini-boom.

Even "profiteering" !!

"Eventually the Middle East will have the West firmly by the financial throat"... They don't already?

  newman35 12:37 04 Jul 2008

Yes they do, but it has been 'manageable' for us.
My point was that if oil were to double again from the present level then the West would be more than a little 'inconvenienced' and there would then be talk of retaliation, and we can only guess what form that would take, and with a 'new' untried President across the pond....?
