I have believed for some time music can also help people with assorted mental illnesses.

We have a friend who has Alzhiemers and can be very violent and out of control. This changes to total calm if a CD is played of either Westlife or Celine Dion.

that very depressed people can often cope better if they have a cat. A purring cat curled up on your lap apparently has a calming and reassuring effect. It's well-known that stroking a dog or cat can accelerate recovery for surgical patients.

Provided you like dogs and/or cats, of course.
