Spare a thought at 07:28 over breakfast on the 1st July. We'll all have some known or unknown relative that was involved in this carnage there or nearby.
My great uncle Jack survived Gallipoli, he didn't survive the Somme. Two man made versions of hell I don't care to contemplate.
My grandfather on my dad's side was involved in the heavy artillery barrage here.
His war wound was 90% deafness and considered himself to be one of the lucky ones.
I shall observe the silence. My grandad was in a "War horse" team in WW2 and luckily survived. A pity that such a dreadful war proved not to be "The war to end all wars"
The Poppies On Tour
I saw them at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and my sister and two cousins saw them at kirkwall during the Jutland centenary.
They're quite an emotional sight to view in real life if you get the chance to see them on tour.
