Slow Cooker (not spam)

Why is there black oil leaking from the bottom of my slow cooker? Surely there can't be n oil filled transformer in there can there?

(Excuse title, got rejected)

May have an oil filled heating element for good even heat transfer. (clutching at straws)

It's as good an explanation as any!

I didn't know such things existed.

Yes they work just like sandwich makers, element is surrounded by oil which heats up to give a more even heat dissipation.

If its leaking then I'm afraid its time for the bin. It'll never pass its "PAT" test.

A lot of electric radiators are oil filled so Wiz-kings suggestion sounds viable.

" I'm afraid its time for the bin."

I've already started looking.

Nothing lasts, it's only about 20 years old!

Typical, fails when it is just out of warranty:-)

Expected life for "white goods" is about five years. I've just had a kettle blow it's switch after two years. I would think you haven't done badly with twenty years service.

Don't know what size your current one is but we find the 1.5 litre size is just right for the two of us. We've got a couple of bigger ones but rarely use them apart from perhaps the 3 litre one to make a big Chilli when my son visits.

I bought mine from here

Small slow cookers.

But I'm sure other places sell the smaller ones too.

1.5 litres? Not a bit of damn good. If I mess about preparing meat and veg (i.e. taking it out of the package) I'm looking for at least a week's main meals out of it!
