If you get free school meals you can choose a better school.

So much fairer than the 11+!

(Yes, I know it's the Daily Mail in the link, but the story is widely reported, and the school meals criterion seems to appear in most of them)

It won't matter because after the cuts there will be very few that will get the free meals!

It's actually probably a ploy to reduce the unemployment figures.

Thousand of people will pack in their jobs so that they go on benefit and qualify for free school meals.

Their jobs will then be available for the long term unemployed.

They themselves will not appear in the unemployment figures as they will be "voluntarily unemployed"!

"What has this to do with the 11+?"

I didn't think the connection was that tenuous.

However, the 11+ is, or was, used to select youngsters for better schools.

The proposal suggests using eligibility free school meals for the same purpose.
