Gary KcKinnon must have known that what he was doing was wrong as he freely admits trying to cover his tracks.

If someone leaves their house unlocked and he wanders in and helps himself to their property then he is guilty of theft. You may say that the person who left the door unlocked was careless but that does not excuse his thieving.

I feel that he deserves to be tried for his offences and should not complain that it was somone elses fault that he could do it.

As has been written many times before, the servers are not trying to access your system, they are checking to see if your IP address is receiving. It is called 'handshaking'. trhere is a huge difference between handshaking and hacking and the two should never be mixed up.

Nope, he just found out somethings that the US gov't does not want the world to know, or so the guy claims.

He embarrassed the US by the hacking most secure networks they apparently have and this is what he gets for it, the admin password was set up as blank? If that's true they practically gave invitations.
