How long before people start wondering about the origins of that funny little "Save" icon in so many programmes?

What's a floppy disk?

My memory isn't what it used to be

What's a floppy disk?

It went into the B drive, of course. I had a Dutch PC in early '80's with A and B drives so I copied the 5 1/2 " discs onto the new ones... Cant read any now as they were in Lotus 123 , Freelance and AmiPro -:(

Do you have an icon on a brick for a SSD?

  fourm member 15:02 03 Mar 2014

If they don't understand it, they can always phone a friend.

and that's what it's all about, how many youngsters recognise the Save icon as a Floppy disc or even know what one is.

PCs haven't come with a floppy drive (3 1/2 inch not even floppy as in a hard plastic case) for ten years now (unless specified by the customer), never mind the even older 5 1/4 proper floppy disk.

Ports are disappearing as well D-VI, Firewire, Scart, EIDE, SCCSI etc. Replaced by HDMI, USB, SATA, Thunderbolt.

USB is hanging in there now upgraded to USB3 but comes in a variety of sizes hopefully to be standardised to Standard and mini thanks to phone chargers

  wiz-king 15:31 03 Mar 2014

And, who still has that type of phone?

  bumpkin 15:33 03 Mar 2014

Only 8 numbers on that phone.

"And, who still has that type of phone?"

Noel Edmonds.

I recently heard a relative newcomer to computers/laptops ask what the 'little blue television' does !!! I have to say, it took me a few seconds to realise what they were referring to!!! That person was a mature late-comer to the world of technology, I have to add.

Yes, you're right, there are many folks now who won't even know what a floppy disc was.
