Refrigerator electrics

The god damn fridge has just packed in now!

Anyway I can't get an engineer out before Monday, so I had a quick look myself. The fuse was OK, but no power for the motor or light. There isn't much there except for a some sort of regulator that the live wires go into, with several feeds out, so I assume that is the problem... anyone know any more?

So until Monday it's cooler box, ice packs and sour milk:(

Is plugged on directly to the compressor. It generally has two or three wires to it. It might be wired to a run capacitor. Some have a capacitor as part of the relay.

These relays fail. But it could be a bad compressor as well.

Sometimes totally plugged coils or a bad condensor fan can overheat the compressor and cause it not to start.

Most often it is your relay.
To get a new part you will need your model number off the tag.

I'll see if I can get a relay locally.

A defective compressor start relay doesn't explain why the interior light isn't lit, does it?

The fuse in the plug may be OK, but is there power to the mains socket?

Not a very elegant solution, but give the relay a short whack with a heavy object. It may have stuck and the percussion effect will un-jam it. You've got nothing to lose !

£22.50 for the relay thingy, job done thanks.

Many thanks.

Noted and stored.

Knowledge is power (to the refrigerator)!

no cold beer for the opening Six Nations games would have been a true disaster!

The "relay thingy" is called a Klixon.
Often includes a thermal overload operated by load current. This is the bit that causes them to fail due to long exposure to the heat generated, even in normal running.
They just fall to bits inside.
