Pond life (non ploitical)

I mentioned last year that I was going to enlarge a small garden pond into a reasonable sized one, and did it at the backend to create the least disturbance to the bit of wild life that it had attracted.

Anyway, after what seed a never ending winter, I only did my first bit of garden tidying work yesterday. I cleaned the filter and cleared the sunken dead leaves. But while I was thinning out the marginals, 3 huge and heavily pregnant toads leapt from the cover to the other end followed by the male, well that one wasn't pregnant anyway! There also seems to be signs of fish eggs in the new shallow area. It looks like the extension has worked already... there will be no slugs in my garden this year:)

Yes, I'm looking forward to what the spring & summer life brings.

for Damsel flies this spring, they're beautifully coloured, and a delight to watch. I spend hours doing it every spring.
