The real Pink Panther

Don't let Clouseau anywhere near it!

The BBC report said:-

More than 90% of the pink diamonds in the world come from the Argyle mine, a Rio Tinto statement said.

How can it then be described as 'rare'? ...albeit, it's 12.76 carats, the largest found.

In saying that, the 'Jubilee', erm, cough, cough for purpose!

If Elizabeth Taylor had been alive, I wonder if she would have wanted this for her collection?.

AitchBEE - Pink diamonds are rare. Of the few that are found 90% are reported to come from that one mine.

AitchBEE that's one good way to smuggle the diamond out by swallowing and choking cough cough erm now clear the old throat.

Woolwell - you are correct!

For every one million 'white' diamonds (colourless) that are unearthed, only one coloured diamond is found.

And only 750 pink diamonds have been put up for sale since 1985, from the Rio Tinto Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia.

I would describe them (the pink coloured stones) as 'quite rare'.
