when government funding is withdrawn from a scientific project is outlined if you click here
British know how developed a special and powerful radar instrument that delivers unique interferogram images showing how earthquakes distort the earth's surface. It has been incredibly successful, but the original spacecraft that carried it needs replacing, and a series of new missions are to be launched. These will need new radar instruments, but our government withdrew funding, so the contracts for the first of the new spacecraft have gone to German and Italian companies.
Contracts for the successive craft in the series will be worth hundreds of millions of euros, and will all go to Germany and Italy.
It's an interesting glimpse into what can happen when you start budget cutting.
