Carried out on a treadmill this robot clocks up 28.3 mph to Bolt's 27.78 mph. The poor, mechanical thing goes out of sync at its maximum speed and has to be lifted off the treadmill. robot speed test

This is the latest published effort in developing a military robot for future warfare. I can think of much better ways of using the funding; for the benefit of humanity for instance. TC.

Did I miss Usain Bolt in the treadmill event?

Can this robot negotiate (successfully) 10 x 1 metre hurdles over a distance of 400 metres...I know that I can't.

The robot cheated, it's got four legs!

On a serious note, if they can lengthen it's stride, by making it flex like a running cat, how fast might it then go?

  Grey Goo 20:29 06 Sep 2012

They will need to tie a Tennis Raquet to each leg for Desert use.May not be as speedy then.

should be racquet

I hope that drug-robot cheats are dismantled...no questions asked.

The amount of time it took to get to that speed Bolt would have crossed the line and drunk a cup of tea!

Interesting piece of technology, but wasted on military usage.

The military are already using robots in all sorts of funny areas. I'm sure they are not developing them for fun events like the 100 meter race.

I've read a couple of books recently about the American military and the use of men inside robots. Very far fetched of course but could be on the way.

Tanks - 'men inside robots'...have been around for about 100 years.
