A new British athletics record

  QuizMan 12:08 18 Jul 2008

It's not every day of the week that a British athletics record that has stood for 27 years is broken, but that happened on 17 July when Montell Douglas beat Kathy Cook's 100 metre British record. Details here click here

Montell is a member of the same running club as me and she should receive recognition for an outstanding achievement. However there is very little coverage of it on TV and in the papers because of the furore surrounding Dwain Chambers, so I am sharing it with you all. I shall raise a glass of something suitable later today.

It's always good to see some one excel at something. I saw Jonathan Edwards break his own record at Sheffield's Don Valley stadium for the triple jump in the mid '90s. The buzz in the stadium was electric.

Kathy Cook was a great runner in the 80's.

QuizMan. Great stuff, but what's she wearing the Christmas hat for?

Couldn't agree more. Apart from Sebastian Coe, she was my all-time favourite athlete.

It's an old photo, but she probably thought that the nicest present she could get was a British record
