German car giant Mercedes has bought the Brawn Formula 1 team in a move that is likely to see Jenson Button join McLaren as Lewis Hamilton's team-mate.

Mercedes will buy 75% of Brawn in partnership with an Abu Dhabi investment company but will continue as McLaren's engine partner until 2015.

Brawn, who won both world titles in their debut season in 2009, will be rebranded as Mercedes Grand Prix.

Button best move is to Maclaren now that Mercedes have bought Brawn & will want to "home grown" German drivers. Hence buttons move to Mclaren who are likely able to pay Buttons £8Million wage, which Brawn were offering £4Million.

To be honest Ross Brawn was never going to ofer Button what he wanted now the deal with Mercedes is done.
Pity really as Button had been with the team for 7 years during the dry spell with BAR & Honda.

Vodafone have offered to pay Button's salary, so I think he'll move across to Woking before the year's out...

Will he get unlimited texts as well then...?

Button, who won the drivers' title this year, has been trying to secure a pay-rise from his £3.5m salary but it seems Mercedes is not interested in granting his wish.

The news gives us somthing to talk about before the whole circus starts again next March!

I enjoyed Kevin Garside's article in this morning's sports section of the Telegraph -

Also Renault could be rebranding to Nissan according to this months Autosport magazine, and they recon it would be a shrewd move.

"Button, who won the drivers' title this year, has been trying to secure a pay-rise from his £3.5m salary but it seems Mercedes is not interested in granting his wish."

It's not so much Mercedes not wanting to pay him, it's more them wanting an all German driver line-up.

I wonder where Raikkonen is going to go if Button does move to McLaren, as there's not many other teams willing to pay the sort of money he commands...

Confirmed that Button has signed for McLaren.
