Just got this from a pal by e-mail.

Two moons on 27 August*

Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August 27.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye.
Mars will come within 34.65M miles of earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30am.
It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

The diameter of Mars is about 7000 km. The moon is roughly half that.

At it's closest to Earth, Mars is approx 55 million km. At its farthest from Earth, the moon is less than 1/2 million km.

Do the maths! ;-)
