Local Vicar Couldn't Believe It

When the collection plate returned from a single service collection last Sunday, the vicar must have thought he either had a congregation of 110 good Samaritan's or there was someone with a guilty conscious, for on totalling the contents of the plate there was £270,000.(Two hundred & Seventy Thousand Pounds)

That must be a record for a single service collection in a village church.

Thats about £2500 pounds each, are you sure thats right?

  jakimo 11:39 22 Jul 2009

Positive, obviously they wouldn't have all given the same amount

That's a pretty big collection plate, as even if it was £50 notes it would be 5400 notes.

I've carried about £100k in £20 notes, and it's a fairly hefty bundle...

Is there a link, I am curious?

  jakimo 11:59 22 Jul 2009

There hasn't been any details of how the amount was made up,I would guess it was mostly cheques

  jakimo 12:07 22 Jul 2009

I don't have an internet link.

The church is:> St Mary`s Church>Aldridge>Nr.Walsall>West Midland:.The rector is Rev.Richard Cornfield

I'll tell you one thing, if I had a spare 10 grand it wouldn't go to a church.

The Church of England is enormously wealthy, but doesn't like to spend it's money on the upkeep of their own property...
