Obviously common sense is not really the order of the day where the EU is concerned.

Then those that rule the EEC are more foolish than I had imagined.

The logic suggests that one will not be allowed to sell a "Single" anything.

How eggsrawdinary! How do we get the chickens to lay eggs by weight and not by quantity.

  Legolas 16:23 27 Jun 2010

As wee eddie says if true this is another ludicrous and unnecessary law from Brussels

They also reported this on BBC news this morning.

Perhaps the problem is decimalised digits. We manage to count to a dozen with only the ten provided but for some reason those on the east of the channel stop when they reach the last pinkie!!

Maybe our education process works!!!!!

As an afterthought, how will they (the EU experts) manage with a 'Baker`s dozen'???????

whether we buy eggs (or anything else) by weight, or number?

It's hardly an earth-shattering change - there are far more important things than this to get steamed up about.

Midgetninja Our local pound shop is selling eggs in nines.....a cracking good buy

  Pine Man 19:05 27 Jun 2010

You are, nearly, all moaning about not being able to buy eggs by the dozen.

You will still be able to buy a dozen BUT you will actually pay for their weight not the number of them.

At the moment you buy your eggs by size and within a box that could vary dramatically between the minimum and maximum sizes for that grade of egg.

In theory, at the moment, you pay the same for a box of the smallest sized eggs within a grade as you would for a box of the largest sized eggs within the same grade, which could be significant.

So it is much better that you pay for the weight of your beloved dozen eggs.

Exactly. The whole idea behind selling by weight is that you get consistency. It's a step forward, but there will be those who don't like the change, simply because it emanates from the EU.

In any case, it won't happen for quite some time.
