Why did he need an armed police escort?

Well we English take our cricket seriously.

I heard someone on the Today programme say that Peterson considered joining the Navy , not to see the world, but to let the world see him! I do not closely follow cricket but it seems there are as many prima donnas in that sport as in soccer.

You couldn't be further from the truth.

I never did really think him the right man for the job, an excellant and exciting batsman maybe, but so was Botham, and a captain needs much more than that. Perhaps someone more down to earth is needed. Hopefully Strauss will prove to be the right choice.

Stuartli. I am sure you are right; I am very pleased the team went to India recently and showed they were not deterred by terrorism.

  ulrich 12:14 08 Jan 2009

I didn't see him guarded like that in India. Oh well I suppose it is only public money being wasted again.

The "armed police escort" would have been the normally armed airport police escorting out of the airport as quickly as possible to minimise potential problems in the airport caused by the press scrum.

So no public money wasted then...

The media interest would have made it impossible for KP to have gone through the terminal unhindered.
Who's going to argue with an armed policeman with an Heckler & Koch!!

So glad he's gone, we can now get a real captain & not some prima donna.
Yes KP can bat but the influence of Shane Warne has brought this on!
Strauss will make a better captain, is more focused & not such a poser as KP.
Pity Moores resigned though i think he should have been backed by the ECB more!!

I am sorry but having armed police to protect someone from the media is slightly over the top.
I am pretty sure there are easier ways to get VIP out of Heathrow.
