Whether this is genuine or not I do not know but thought it may be worth pasing on....

You should be alert during the next days:

Do not open any message with an attached filed called "Invitation"
regardless of who sent it, It is a virus that opens an Olympic
Torch
which "burns" the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail
address in his/her contact list, that is why you should send this
e-mail to
all your contacts. It is better to
receive this message 25 times
than to receive the virus and open it.
If you receive a mail called "invitation", though sent by a
friend, do not open it and shut down your computer immediately.
This is the
worst virus announced by CNN, it has been classified by Microsoft
as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no
repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys
the Zero
Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept
SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ,
COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND! IT TO YOUR FRIENDS

AND REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND
IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US

hopefully a hoax click here

I fear however one day some will release a hoax and it will become a well known hoax - then send out the real virus

  Kate B 09:22 23 Mar 2007

these are always hoaxes, and one of the negative effects they have, even if there's nothing to cause damage to your PC, is that they cause worry. And clog up the net generally as millions of people forward them.

  Bingalau 09:55 23 Mar 2007

I thought that may be the case... Thanks.

  Jak_1 10:15 23 Mar 2007

Olympic torch has been around for quite a few years now and is deff a hoax virus.

  €dstowe 10:34 23 Mar 2007

Apart from the message being a load of rubbish, the give-away is:
"SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ,
COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND! IT TO YOUR FRIENDS"

Carrying this out as instructed would flood the Internet with total junk.

Aye, it's been around in various guises for a few years, as others have said. Have a wee Google for 'Invitation + virus'.

Cheers

Any email which includes the message:

"SEND THIS E-MAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW ,COPY THIS E-MAIL AND SEND! IT TO YOUR FRIENDS"

Or words to that effect isn't even worth reading. There are no exceptions, if you see that phrase it's a hoax.
