Good evening Brumas.
Memory can play tricks sometimes so I hope I'm at least nearby here. My first thought is on the Severn near Gloucester. It's about 55 years since saw something similar whilst visiting from Dublin.

Your memory serves you well although it is in Ireland it is not Dublin.

Is it Kilkenny Castle on the River Nore?

I have just re-read your post and realised when I read "saw something similar whilst visiting from Dublin" - I didn't spot the word FROM and gave out a clue - DUH!!!

For the morning shift.

Fascinating one - I live in N Ireland and have travelled extensively throughout Ireland and can't place this one.

As there have not been a lot of guesses, I will give another clue - it is on the River Lee.

Would it be that castle where people lean out and kiss the Blarney Stone.. Begorrah! Blarney castle?

Could it be the Gresham Metropole hotel in Cork
