Does your company operate any 'green computing' initiatives?

Have your say in the poll in the lefthand column. If the answer is yes, we'd love to hear how the company is helping the planet - whether it's limiting printing or reducing energy consumption - here in the forums.

Several documents that were quite sizeable (Rule book, Management Information Manual) where issued to every manager in printed format. These were updated often every six months.

Now they are only issued as pdf docs to be kept on the managers laptop and updated via the server.

That's one forest saved! :0)

Yes and yes

All our printers are set to Duplex by default. We are encouraged to shutdown the PC's overnight and turn off monitors otherwise we get a laminated note on our desk the next morning. Screensavers blocked and full monitor shutdown in its place after a period of time (all controlled centrally).

Not computer related but all our lighting is now low energy 'daylight' style fluorescents with no startup load.

Disposal plastic cups replaced with china mugs.

On the horizon is auto meeting room light turnoff via movement sensors.

Just a shame they can't control the aircon v heating. Quite often they kick in one after the other like a climate control situation !

Make every one bring their own coal would be a good idea. that would save the firm as few bob.

Forget air-con and heating, issue everyone with a fan and a 13 tog duvet.

I work for UK plc and we are hitting the "green" targets weekly.
Why only the other day the minister in charge said the same thing.
And after all they are an elected offical who tells the truth!

Our laptops are so weighed down with security scripts and software that actually using then to do the job for which they were intended is impossible.

So definitely green a most people don't bother switching them on unless they really have to.

The only thing green in our office are the files I've got to faff about with all day.
