This is from the main page:-

The BBC plans to let anyone download the iPlayer by the fall

Am I missing something here?

  Brumas 22:56 13 Aug 2007

The Fall is an American expression for Autumn.
As far as I know we are not yet the 51st State!

If this is a wind-up - you got me, fair and square!

No wind up, that's what it says. Presumably we are eentering a new phase of the Americanisation of the English language, with compulsory use of Aluminum, Nukiller, Catsup and other such words.

I hate it and that's all I'm gonna say, period.

Oh blast !!!

I remember seeing similar objections to the word 'teenager' when it was new and unfamiliar. If it hadn't become part of our language we'd have to resort to 'person between the ages of twelve and twenty' or something similar.
