Interesting! I heard about this (click here) on the radio yesterday but this has more details and links to the original research.

Perhaps, FE needs to start publishing his comments in Comic Sans or Bodoni to help some people remember his [gentle] strictures :-)

Also, maybe using Comic Sans on enducational web sites or similar shouldn't be the hanging offence that most 'professional' designers seem to think it is!

So, from both pieces of research, the conclusion seems to be:

1) Get your lecturer to do his handouts in Comic Sans or Bondi

2) When you're 'book-craming', get Kindle versions of your textbooks and switch to 'ugly' font :-)
