So why is it then that some of us manage to live for so long? Is it all in the genes?

Choose you parents very carefully etc. Is it our way of life? What we eat etc. I don`t

suppose Harry Patch referred to in this posting even knew what a healthy diet was when he

was a young man. An element of luck must come in to it and Harry who fought in the first

world war must have had his share of good luck just to survive. Any suggestions then.

What is your recipe for a long life?

I think you are right, it is luck.

Both my parents lived to be 90+. My sister, a clean-living non-smoking, non-drinking, ward-sister died very young, riddled with cancer.

I've had anything but a *clean* life and I'm getting on a bit now and apart from dodgy knees in the winter I feel fine.

Yes it is all luck, no rhyme or reason and certainly no justice.
