"When I was a boy, my mother would send me down to a corner shop with a pound, and I'd come back with five bags of potatoes, two loaves of bread, three bottles of milk, a lump of cheese, a box of tea and half a dozen eggs.

You can't do that now.

Too many security cameras.

When I was a boy my mother sent me down to the corner shop for a loaf of bread and some butter. I came back with a cabbage. My backside hurt for a week but it worked, she didn't send me again.

As my father would say when told this, "Just where did you manage to get the pound from in the first place?"

Fish and chips were 1/8d from the local chippie. Making my mouth water just thinking back!
