Can anyone advise, are generic emails potential less secure than what I term normal emails? is it possible for some one with local IT involvement to be able to obtain the content of internal email easily/ what I mean by generic is where the person changes on a system but the generic address moves to the new user.

If you mean an email similar to sales then yes all emails will be stored on the compamy server. If anyone at a company uses a company email address the all the emails will be stored, we store ours for 1 month after the have been 'deleted' by the account holder but the time may vary between different companies. If they are not 'deleted' they are archived to a special disk on the sever - got about three years worth on that at the moment.
