There are a lot of camera booms appearing on edges of greater london roads. On asking around been told they are for the new congestion charge which will cover the whole of greater london and charges based on the exhaust emissions of the vehicle. All sounds very expensive anyone heard about this or is it a bad rumor doing the rounds.

anskybar

thanks for the link but the talk is the whole of greater london in late 2008 with heavy costs per day.

anskybar had a look around the web you posted and found this in relation to commercial stuff click here

looks like truth in the rumor and a lot of expense for everyone if it comes in

it also may come in for cars, and consumers may get the costs passed down from haulage costs.

in late 2008 with heavy costs per day."

Only for commercial vehicles, and then only if they don't meet the emission standards, as fourm member has pointed out. Fleet operators will avoid the charges because their vehicles will comply, as will most vehicles.

Just a quick follow on, I think you will find a lot of the new camera's going up in London are ANPR (Advanced Number Plate Recognition).

ANPR is a good thing as it spots cars that have been stolen.
