The Downing Street Diaries...

Watching the first two episodes of the AC diaries, are we supposed to be in awe of this party apparatchik's unelected fingers having pulled so many people's strings? God, (yes that's The Word) he was even choreographing the Queen.

All I experienced was a sense of revulsion.

it was an interesting insight into the way one man did the job he was hired to do.

I have no axe to grind for spin doctors, as they're called, and certainly not for this one, but it's worth keeping an open mind. Alastair Campbell's diaries have been much hyped, but as far as I can see they don't contain much by way of startling revelations. I'll probably read the book, simply because I'm always interested in private accounts of public events.

It's surprising how much influence unelected people have over our affairs.

Many politicians thought Yes Minister/Prime Minister very close to the truth!
