If you haven't I can definitely recommend it. It won an English Excellence Award for Best Large Attraction, and deserved to, it's a great day out.

Hartlepool Maritime area, if you are into shops the Metro Center in Gateshead and the City of Newcastle.

Whitby is worth an afternoon - the abbey is great and the little windy streets are nice to wander around.

For once must disagree with Kate B.

Whitby is a dreadful place, very expensive, very unfriendly, one of the few really unfriendly places I've come across in the whole of the UK (and beyond - including Paris!).

Newton Stewart in Galloway is another.

South Shields ***--(3/5) - Miniblackpool with more Cavs

Woodhorn Collery ***--(3/5) - Not been recently as it has been refirbished wish a lottery Grant

Durham Cathedral ****-(4/5) - Great day around durham but its like most other cathedrals but durhams worth the look around

Alnwick *****(5/5) - Massive 2nd hand boookstore & alnwick castle where some of Harry Potter was shot

Ha, just some useless knowledge, Beamish Museum is near somewhere called 'No Place' oh, Whitby is more than 25miles away, so is hartlepool.

So is Shieldon, Alnwick and Cullercoats but you sometimes need to travel to get to the better places.

Oh, theres also Hall Hill Farm in the spring you can see the lambs

"Lindisfarne ***--(3/5) - Its only an island with stuff on"

That could describe many places, Australia -an island with some stuff on.

Personally I was quite impressed with Lindisfarne when I want a couple of years ago
