Cures for a sore throat?

  belfman 07:20 05 Jun 2008

I'm running out of fruit pastilles, anything else to subside the discomfort?

  JoeC 07:39 05 Jun 2008

from your chemist. Contains an antibiotic to kill the germs and a very good anaesthetic to sort out the pain.

A hot toddy?

Can be made with the spirit or red wine of your choice:

Half a lemon

Two teaspoons of sugar (or not if you prefer)

A measure of Scotch or similar (or half a glass of red wine)

Top up in a large mug with hot water, and drink it as hot as possible.

Don't have too many though :))

Does the same as JoeC's and numbs the throat... must be a cocaine content:)

Will take them two names to the Chemist's shortly, to get advice.

Get some Zinc tablets from the Chemist or health food store, and SUCK one every now and then. They will taste absolutely aweful but they are supposed to kill of the bacteria in your throat that cause the soreness. The consensus also is that the worse they taste is a measure of how deficient you are in here

If you don't fancy this Strepsils also do one with an anaesthetic content.

Gargle with soluble aspirin.

hot chilli/curry

You could also get a bottle of TCP and used that. diluted, to gargle.

A cheaper method is salt water. Make a warm, saturated solution to gargle with but try not to swallow any as it may make you vomit.

Providing you have no history of asthma, gastric ulcers or allergies to the meds then try Dr Scott's suggestion of soluble aspirin gargles. You can also take Paracetamol 1g four times a day with the aspirin.
Try Paracetamol 1g four times a day together with Ibuprofen 400mg 3 or 4 times per day.
I assume you are over 12 years old as the above are adult doses.
