can you replace staircase strings?

Does anyone know if you can just replace the staircase strings without replacing the staircase, the strings are rotten but the stairs are all ok. i would imagine it is quite complicated, just wondered if it is possible.

I'll be the first to stick my neck out!

What are staircase strings?

I've heard of treads and risers, but not strings.

Now I know what they are, I'll offer an opinion!

Anything is possible, but the cheapest solution will surely be a factory manufactured complete staircase.

do you mean spindles ,if so yes you can change the spindles on your staircase.

or do you mean stringers .stringers are the foot steps. on top of the risers does your staircase have winders ?.

I agree with oresome, it would be more advisable to order a ready built staircase and make it one big job and finish. Once you start trying to cut out old timbers, other bits move, the other joints start to creak......... Sorry, Been there, done it !

.stringers are the foot steps.
