to me it looks like a young blackheaded gull that has not grown its brown feathers yet for its head.

It's a young tern gull...pretty sure.

As sunnystaines, I also think it's a blackheaded gull but an adult in winter plummage, don't think that it's a tern, tail doesn't seem long enough ...alB

It's a juvenile, so the tail would be shorter...I stand corrected though if the ornithologists amongst us can confirm ID.

My lad (a keen photographer) has been spending hours around this area looking for an albino pheasant which has been seen. So far without success. I think his mates in the Post office where he works are winding him up. Is there such a thing as an albino pheasant?

Adult Black-headed gull in the process of changing from breeding to winter plumage.

Breeding plumage is a rich dark chocolate coloured hood. Winter plumage is a rather tacky looking spot behind the eye.

The bill and legs are also a much brighter red in the summer.

Stand corrected I think your right but the head is so tern like (no pun) Very young bird.

I hope to set up a 'hide' or two, this winter near my bird feeding stations. I don't have any fancy cameras, but, who cares? My thermos flasks are washed out and ready to go.

No reason why you couldn't have an albino pheasant, we used to have one that was so highly melanistic it was almost black. An albino would however have the usual problems in snow free Britain, it'll stick out like a sore thumb and be a prime target for any and all predators. So if it does exist photo it quickly as it's not likely to last too long.
