Broken vhs tape

  the-emsworth-kid 18:05 04 May 2005

Having decided to copy aged vhs tapes to dvd - I've hit a problem - the first tape (and the oldest) that I want to copy has become detached from the 'take-up' spool. Has anybone had any success at re-threading a vhs tape?

Not a problem.
You can "splice" the bits but would need a suitable repair tape.
If you settle for keeping the main tape,
1. Open case.
2. Remove tape from "short" end spool.
3. Detach tape from spool by prising out plastic plug.
4. cut new end square.
5. re-assemble.

Many thanks.

Both spools have a "key" section. You will need to disassemble the cassette, taking care to note the relative positions of components, remove the take up spool. Then locate and remove the "key". This is best done with a small screwdriver and inside a polythene bag as bits may fly. You then replace the broken take with the good tape and re-assembly is the reverse of dis-assembly.

Good luck
