Do "Breach of Promise" actions still come to court?
Those of a certain age will no doubt remember eagerly devouring the salacious details in the News of the World (it was always the NotW!) when a gentleman, who was obviously anything but, promised marriage as a result of which "certain relations of an intimate nature took place" to quote the phrase of the time.
The aggrieved lady, who many at the time also believed was anything but, then sued for damages.
Can't remember the last time I saw such a case, in the UK anyway.
