Battery charger

I have a u/s charger for a cordless drill. A new one would be very pricey. I am thinking of using a battery eliminator to charge the 12 volt battery and wonder about the voltage needed, I would guess about 16 volts on load. Does anyone have an idea of what would be needed? Thanks.
