Very sad indeed.And look it says his father was only 46 ! no age at all.

His father, also called Michael, 46, of Cormorant Close in Bransholme, died 10 minutes later.

and very important to be able to say goodbye. Sadly, I suspect his father would have been on a ventilator, and therefore sedated before he died -but in the end that's frequently what ITU provides. A way of extending life to allow relatives to say good bye... but we still don't know how 'aware' sedated patients are on ITU.

Good on the MOD though...
