24 Hours or not

  wmoore 23:26 04 Aug 2008

Our local Tesco is open 24 hours so a sign says
But in truth it isn't the hours are Monday 8am right
through to Saturday 10pm, then Sunday 8am -4.30pm
So it isn't open 24 hours is it. So how can they say
open 24 hours.

The clue is in what you said,ie monday 8am till saturday 10pm,monday 8am till tuesday 8am=24 hours, and so on.
Sunday trading hours won't allow them to open longer as far as I'm aware.

It just says "Open 24hrs" not 24hrs a day 7 days a week.

and it's open more hours than what the sign says....

It's open 132 hours Monday to Sat and in your case 8.5 hours on a Sunday, and in my case 5.5 hours on a Sunday.

Sunday trading in Northern Ireland is 1pm to 6pm with some stores opening thirty minutes early for broswe time.

User2008;Ah the"joys"of browse time,I only experienced it once at my local Tesco-never again!
When the tills opened the dash for them was equal to summer sales fever.

How sad are people that shop at 01:30? You wouldn't paint the spare bedroom ceiling at that time, or power wash the patio, or weed the front borders...

Go to bed! Mind you, they're open now if you've run out of washing powder:)

Or those that post on forums at all hours, eh?

Sleep tight Quickbeam.

Try the local Ikea to sample the 'joys' of Sunday browse time. Form an orderly queue - then the mad trolly dash to the tills.
Not my idea of a Sunday outing.

"How sad are people that shop at 01:30?" I have suffered from insomnia for over 11 years, and regularly shop at 2Am. Tesco's is empty, no hassle at the checkout and all done in a fraction of the time it would take later in the day.

I would (and have) painted my walls and ceilings in the wee small hours too.

As has already been pointed out in a post above, Sunday trading forbids supermarkets from opening more than 6hrs.

If I'm not mistaken,if the floor space is over a certain area then it's 6hrs. Because the Express stores are only small they are allowed to open 18 hrs.on a Sunday.

I have only visited Tesco during the overnight period and that was at about 6am. There was virtually no milk or bread which is what I went in for and every aisle was piled with cages and boxes to negotiate.
