The 14 stone 8 year old child

The lone parent of this unfortunate child stands accused of "child abuse".

That's as maybe, but is not the (now world-wide) publicity being given to this child's plight also tantamount to child abuse?

I find this wait issue really annoying and media driven, it seems half our kids (I dont actually have any) are fat overwieght walking heartheart attacks waiting to happen and the other half are stick insects obsessing over fastion mags. However when i walk down my street the majority of people i meet are or average size???

Sumthing funny is going on???

Seems like others agree also. I often find myself reading this blog and tend to agree with his opinions on most things:

I live within half a mile of the child in question and i often see him out playing with other kids and he does look like a very happy young child now before i am slated here let it be said that i do see the health risks involved with such a demand put on a young body by all the weight he is carrying but i think it is absolutely ludicrous to put this child into care taking him away from all his friends and family just to starve him why can't the social services department try putting him on a diet first and maybe demand that he goes to a local clinic so many times per week just to make sure the weight of the child is being reduced.

silverous thanks for that link i have bookmarked it for a later session as i too agree with the comments made, I have just driven past the childs house about an hour ago on my way home and the vultures (T.V. Crews) are all set up ready to swoop. Maybe this is something the general public would like to know about bt hy do the reporters have to be stationed outside the house?

Rant over sorry realist if you think i have hijacked your thread.

It looks like the kid's a bi-product of a mother who can't properly look after herself let alone her child. So the boy eats, crams food down his throat as a compensation for the love, interaction and stimulus he doesn't get.

I saw the mother, who suffers from deep depression, not only smoking in bed, she was smoking with her head on the pillow and the covers nearly covering her head.

It never ceases to amaze me how cases like this slip through the social services net. I know they're stretched, but to not intervenve, or anyone else for that matter, until he weighs 14 stone seems like absolute neglect.

The mother can't cope, doesn't even know how to ask for help, and the social workers, teachers don't offer any assistance until it's too late and the child gets taken into care.

It's the system that should be accused of abuse, not the mother.

His mother is incapable of taking care of herself never mind him. She was smoking in bed with covers over her head..what sort of example is that? Watching him stuff his face with food nearly made me upchuck, I have seen warthogs with more manners. judging by the way he stuufed his mouth one would think that he had never eaten for a year. The house is a complete pigsty and unsuitable for human habitation. The child is obnoxious in that he is squealing all the time for food and his 'mother' is obeying him. He is grossly overweight and a disgrace and his body, no matter how young, is not prepared for this. Only his grandmother has any care for him. He needs pulling out of there ASAP and put on a strict diet.....and his mother needs specialised care as well. The boy is living proof that eugenics could work.

'why can't the social services department try putting him on a diet first and maybe demand that he goes to a local clinic so many times per week just to make sure the weight of the child is being reduced.'...with his mother and family, this is the most naive statement that I have ever heard.
