You have email!

For most of this year I have settled down to Broadband via BT and Yahoo after years of AOL.
Regular speeds now and no nonsense but......

I miss Joanna Lumley and her "you have email."
In fact here is no sound at all to tell me that I have new email.

Though I no longer pay AOL I still have the software and the "gotmail" appears on a section of alternative sounds in Windows from Control panel.

Can anyone direct me to a Yahoo mail folder where I can impose Joanna on the new mail area?

Assuming that you are using Outlook Express or similar and not web-based e-mail, in Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds tab click on New Mail Notification and point it at your JL sound file.

"JL" sound file ?

As a question of terminology I think Yahoo mail is probably web based.

Used only to AOL I accepted various prompts and landed with this.
I can use OE if I wish, but don't do so when emailing I soon became used to the new fangled method.
Will perhaps try and find the answer in the distant parts of the Yahoo window.

You can still use a free AOL mail powered by AIM

JL = Joanna Lumley.

I don't think that this will work with webmail.

Thanks both for sensible answers.
I spotted JL within seconds of posting my query just too slow to spot VoG™s abbreviation!

I will do without her rather than change my newly learned approach to email.

Yes woodchip, I had noticed that I can still use AOL software even though I've lost one alternative screen name I had with them.
It seems that I worried unnecessarily when moving to BT and can still access all the favourites I have listed in AOL.

One difficulty with BT is my inability to find any fringe help from them with detail like this.
I go round all sorts of loops but usually fail to find what I was looking for!

So what. The existing system works well and why change it indeed.
