Yahoo, IE lists: search parameters & web sites

I have a desktop pc used by the whole family. My elder daughter seems to have discovered a method of (a) clearing previous search words remembered by Yahoo from the search field on its front page, and (b) clearing previous url's from the IE address field - not only the dropdown list when you select the arrow at the right of the field, but also the "intelligent" list which comes up when you start typing in the box. How has she done this (she plays dumb, of course) and how can I reinstate it?

There are various bits of shareware around to do this, and IE has something similar in <Tools><Internet Options>. In both cases, it deletes everything on the machine at that time, and allows you to start with a clean sheet.

Probelm is that once its gone, its gone. Others may know of some forensic way to get it back. Best plan is to make sure that all your favourite sites are stored in <My Favorites> and to back this up to another device every so often.
