XP2800 not recognised

  wossie 17:17 03 Jun 2003

I have just replaced an AMD XP2200 with an AMD XP2800 and it is still being recognised as an XP2200 the bios has been updated to accept an XP3000. The CPU FSB is set to 133MHz in the bios. The MoBo is an MSI KT3 Ultra 2. The XP2200 is 266MHz FSB, and the XP2800 is 333MHz. Any suggestions?. Thanks, Wossie.

if the front side bus of the CPU IS 333mhz then you need to set your motherboard to 166mhz fsb in the bios, you will also need DDR2700( 166*2) memory for this as DDR2100 runs at 133*2, if as you say your motherboard supprts this processor then see if you have the choice of cpu/memory fsb settings ie 133/166 for memory/cpu , if you only have 133/133 and 166/166 then you may need the faster memory (2700) if you can set the motherboard to this be aware that you will not get the full benefit of your upgraded speed.

good luck anyway

If you cannot find setting in bios, there may be jumpers on the motherboard for 100/133/166 settings have a look in your manual.
I think they are sw1 and sw2.

Thanks paperman27 I set the speed to 166 in the BIOS and XP2800 is present and correct. I have DDR 333 (PC2700) Ram. So we are on the swines hump, may you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you are dead. Thanks again, Wossie.
