Hi Guys,
PC "crashed" last night, after having turned PC off to go out, then switched on at my return home. It went through 'post' then a black screen with the following error message appeared:
WINDOWS COULD NOT START BECAUSE THE FOLLOWING FILE IS MISSING OR CORRUPT:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM.
I tried recovery console but I am not proficient enough with the commands and there actions to repair the fault. Ended up having to do a "clean install" of XP Home. Anyone got any ideas as to why this may have happened, and what do I have to do if it happens again?
XP Home, AMD 3200, NAV, 1G Memory.
Thanks in advance of your help.

Thanks for replying so quickly. Have had a quick look at the info you directed me to, will read properly later. As I said before I do not fully understand the list of commands, how or which one to use or there actions. Which one would be used in this case and what "input" would I have to use?
