XP won't recognize Com Ports

  Red Stripe 15:19 02 Feb 2003

I have just installed XP. My machine has 5 ISA slots but XP will only recognize COM 1 and 2. My modem is on COM 5 and will not work. I can't detect it or configure it. Any ideas?

Don’t think Windows XP supports ISA slots, I tried without success, and the Microsoft web site confirmed this t! But some one out there might prove me wrong!

Thanks Gizmo. What I really meant to say was I have 5 PCI slots (terminology failure)which XP does support but it only lists COM1 and 2 in Device Manager. They are still listed in the BIOS but XP won't recognize them.

Remove them all and install the items individually, say soundcard, then modem, and try and swap them around,
