xp slow start up

When I start up xp takes a long time and I think it's down to Norton, first thing that comes on the task bar after about 1 minute is Norton Ghost then about 2 minutes later the icon for Norton anti virus. I remember with windows 98 you could edit what came on the task bar but I can't seem to do it on XP

A free utility like StartUp Inspector may help (it also shows up any missed trojans) click here

Tyre misconfig into Start>Run and then click on the Startup tab.

Uncheck anything that you don't want to open on startup (avoid essential items) and then reboot.

Should read 'msconfig' not 'misconfig' :)
