XP Shutdown Shortcut

I have tried the shut down shortcut [shutdown -s -t 00] for Win XP but could only get a windows shutdown to the message "It is now safe to turn off your computer". [The old 98/ME shutdown shortcut worked completely and my normal XP shutdown takes me right through to power off without any problems.]

Grateful for any advice on where I have got the new shortcut wrong.

Many thanks.

Shortcut as in a shortcut?

Or are you trying this from the run command in the start menu.

Try this...

shutdown.exe -s -t 00

If it's a shortcut add this to the "Type the location of the item:"

C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00

Many thanks but, yes, I have it set up as a desktop shortcut and the path is correct as your "type the location ..........." example. It appears that something is preventing the fianl power off once windows shuts down?????????

Grateful for any other clues.
