I have a strange shutdown problem I have a Dell dimension 5100 high spec,XP (service pack 2) plenty of memory and has been running ok. For no apparent reason when I go to shutdown the screen goes to 16 colour mode and then hangs. I have to pull the plug to get it to shut down. Any ideas. I havent installed anything for 3 months and its been fine since then anyway.Running AVG Asquared2 and spybot.

Hi, have you tried a System Restore back to a date before you had this problem.

Also, rather than 'pull the plug', if you press and hold down the Start button on case, for a minimum of four seconds the pc should then shut down.
