I thought I had knocked it off, sadly not so.
I had left a pen drive in the usb port and set up was trying to install xp onto that.

if you click here you can see my original question.

how do I get the sata drivers. I have been to the W Digital site and they say they dont do drivers for HDDs.

Eric10. thanks for the link, but I have all the XP drivers for the laptop.

Dick Tattor. it's a 5400rpm WD scorpio blue 250 gig drive

Its SATA contoller drivers you need they will be on the driver disk that came with the motherboard.

If you do not have a disk do you kow make and model of motherboard?

Yes you may get XP Sata Drivers from Motherboard Site

I've always used the Intel "F6" raid drivers click here. They worked okay on my Acer laptop.

PS as its a Laptop you would need the Laptop to be running to use something like Belarc Advisor To find what Motherboards in it. Otherwise it would mean taking the Laptop in bits to find out markings on the board. seems like you are stuck with vista

I have now downloaded the drivers you link to. thanks for that.
I also know that it is a HANNSTAR JMV-4 94v0- MOBO. I have tried to google this and get hundreds of sites but not a makers site. The closest I have got to Hannstar is monitor drivers.

Thanks for your help.

How do I make a bootable pendrive as the laptop has not got a floppy drive?

Cheers Lixdexik

I took the thing to bits to get the MOBO number.

Found the driver straight away on the Acer page , it's the Intel AHCI driver v7.5.0.1017 in the MS Windows XP dropdown box ( the 64bit stuff on the page is for Vista ), unzip it to a floppy or USB stick , also , have a look in the bios , you may be able to turn off the AHCI discovery and run the hard drive slower in PATA mode ( you can do this with certain Dell laptops )

That this is the correct Nlite prog that I have downloaded.

Deployment Tool for the Bootable Unattended Windows ISO
